Delete Your Account
Last updated: 23 October 2026
Cancel your subscription first
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play — you would keep being charged. Cancel it first in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions) or in Google Play (Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions).
How to delete your account
Open the BranchBeat app, go to the Profile tab → Edit, and in the Account section choose Delete Account (or open the ☰ menu → Settings → Account & Security). You’ll be asked to confirm it’s you: with your password, or by signing in again with Google or Apple if that’s how you sign in. Deletion begins immediately and cannot be undone.
If you no longer have the app
Email support@branchbeat.com from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We will verify that you own the account before acting, and confirm by email once it is done.
I’m a parent or guardian
If your child is under 18 and uses BranchBeat, you can ask us to take down or delete their posts, comments or messages, or their whole account. You do not need a BranchBeat account to do this. Email support@branchbeat.com with “Parent request” in the subject, and tell us:
- your child’s username, or the email address on their account;
- what you would like removed: particular posts, comments or messages (a link or a description is enough), or the whole account;
- your name, that you are their parent or legal guardian, and how to reach you.
Start a parent request by email opens a message with these questions ready to answer. Before we act, we ask for enough to be sure the request is genuine, as our Privacy Policy describes.
How long it takes. Once we have your request, we unpublish what you asked about, so that nobody else can see it, within 15 business days, and we delete it within 45 business days. If we need longer, for example to confirm the request, we may take up to 45 more business days to delete it, and we will tell you why before the first 45 are up. We email you when it is done.
If you are a teen, you can delete your own posts, comments and account in the app at any time, as described above, or email us, and the same timelines apply. Our moderation and safety features page lists the controls a parent can use in the app.
Delete some of your data without deleting your account
You can remove individual pieces of your BranchBeat data at any time and keep your account:
- A post: open the ⋯ menu on your post and choose Delete. Its comments and likes are removed with it.
- A comment: press and hold your comment and choose Delete comment.
- A like: tap the heart again.
- A direct message: press and hold your message and choose Delete for everyone; to remove a whole conversation from your inbox, press and hold it in Messages and choose Delete conversation.
- A recording session, and its cloud backup: in Compose, open History and delete the session. This removes it from your device and any backed-up copy in the cloud.
- Future cloud backups: open the ☰ menu → Settings and turn off Back up recordings.
- Bookmarks and playlists: open Bookmarks and delete them.
For anything you can’t remove yourself — for example your instrument calibration recordings, or your app-usage totals — email support@branchbeat.com from the address on your account and say what you want deleted. We will verify the request and confirm by email once it is done, within the period the law requires.
What is deleted
Your profile and username; your posts, along with their comments and likes; any comments and likes you left on other people's posts; your follows, blocks, saved playlists and bookmarks; your notifications; your profile picture, post images and any recordings you backed up to the cloud; and your instrument calibration and training data, including your personal recognition model. The shared model that improves recognition for everyone is rebuilt without your recordings.
What is kept, and why
Direct messages you already sent stay visible to the people who received them, in the same way an email you have sent stays in the recipient's inbox. Reports of content or behaviour are kept as a safety record, so that abuse history cannot be erased by deleting an account; these are visible only to our moderation team and are not linked to your profile once it is gone. Content reported as a child-safety concern may be preserved, together with who posted it and the reports about it, for at least one year, even after the account is deleted; when our team confirms apparent child sexual abuse material, it is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as the law requires. And if a parent withdrew approval through an app store, a coded record of that withdrawal is kept, no longer linked to the account, so it still applies if the app is used again. When we delete an account because it belonged to a child under 13, we keep a short record that the deletion happened, with no account ID, email address, name or content. If you approved a teen’s account as their parent, your approval is withdrawn and the teen’s consent record keeps a marker saying your account was deleted, and only the date and form version of any consent form you signed, not your name, for as long as the teen’s account exists.
Recordings saved on your device
Recordings stored only on your phone are not touched by account deletion, because they never leave your device. Deleting the app removes them.
How long it takes
Deletion runs straight away and is normally complete within a few minutes. Routine encrypted backups can retain copies for up to 30 days before they are overwritten, after which nothing remains.
If you only want a break
The app also offers Deactivate, in the same Account screen. That hides your profile and posts from other people and stops anyone messaging you, while keeping your data. You stay signed in, and you can reactivate at any time from the same screen. Use that if you are not certain — deletion cannot be reversed.
